The role will involve practical coaching, administration, boat maintenance and repair, and attendance at events. The job includes coaching 24 hours per week while also studying for a research MSc in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science - and will be funded for two years. For more information please see the University of Glasgow website - http://www.gla.ac.uk/about/jobs/vacancies/ Feel free to contact the club for more information, and please pass on this advert to anyone you think would be interested! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apprentice Rowing Coach (Coaching Futures) at Glasgow University Boat Club (Coaching Futures) Fixed term for three years 35 hours per week, Salary £20,781 plus benefits (Grade 4) Working in collaboration with Glasgow University Boat Club, Scottish Rowing and sportscotland, the University of Glasgow Sport is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to fill the new role of Apprentice Rowing Coach. This post is part of the Coaching Futures project supported by sportscotland. Coaching Futures is sportscotland’s performance athlete to coach apprenticeship programme that involves former athletes taking on a three year funded coaching role within their Scottish governing body, whilst supported by individual and group professional development opportunities, a mentor and peer apprentice coaches. The programme targets recently retired performance athletes with aspirations to develop a career in coaching and invests in Scottish Governing Bodies (SGBs) who can provide a suitable environment for the coach to learn and develop their skills. Applications are invited from recently retired international rowers (last 5 years) who have made a decision to pursue a career in coaching and as such have already embarked on, or completed a coaching course and taken a step into coaching, be it in a paid or voluntary position. The role of the Apprentice Rowing Coach is to provide coaching support to rowers within the Glasgow University Boat Club programme, leading technical sessions and liaising with multi-disciplinary support service staff to support the overall programme objectives of getting more Scottish rowers onto GB teams. The post holder will manage a squad of senior rowers under the overall programme management of the Director of Rowing, with responsibility for coaching, crew selections and aiming to maximise performances at key events including GB trials, BUCS, Henley and other national and international competitions.
