Train Smart in 2013/14

Dear Coach/Captain/Athlete, How do you or your athletes get fitter for the 2013/14 rowing season? 1) Train harder (more intense) - often leads to burn out and injury. 2) Train longer (greater duration) - often not possible due to work constraints. 3) Train smarter. Smart training means creating sessions and plans focused on specific improvements. For example, during the winter months targeting an improvement in aerobic endurance through high mileage, low intensity sessions. However, to do this properly athletes must know their personal training zones - UT2, UT1, AT etc. The best way to learn this is through lactate threshold testing. Used by elite athletes for years, testing is becoming more common in clubs and schools. The test is quick, inexpensive, can be conducted at your club and will identify heart rate, wattage, and 500m split targets for each of the key training zones. Additionally, accurate 5km and 2km ergometer test predications can be made and physiological strengths and weaknesses assessed. Repeated testing will demonstrate the physiological adaptations you have achieved through training and, importantly, indicate if they were the intended adaptations! Moreover, it re-sets your personal training intensities. For more information, please visit our site - www.deflectionpoint.co.uk or contact us via info@deflectionpoint.co.uk. Prices given on the website are for single athlete tests, squad discounts are available. Also, if you quote 'train smart' you will receive a 10% discount on listed prices.
